Balearic Breakfast | Episode 26-40 | Boogie Wonderland... (Black History Month Celebration - 4h show)
Updated: 10 minutes ago
Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy broadcast this new episode of Balearic Breakfast on her Mixcloud on October 20th, 2026.
ABOUT THIS EPISODE
Destiny had it... Destiny has it... Destiny will have it... Once again, a certain kind of Synchronicity hit... We all know the world lost its mind. We all saw hatred on their faces... They want to destroy our cities, because they believe they can do better. They believe that by destroying, they'll rebuild a new world, a new way of living, a new society... What they forgot is that they are attacking the very people, the very structures that sustain them... Destruction will never give anything else but a hideous void that will never get filled... And all the chaos they created will not give them anything but lost feelings and crushed lives they will have to heal, one day or another...
All the love in the world can’t be gone / All the need to be loved can’t be wrong / All the records are playing and my heart keeps saying / Boogie wonderland, wonderland... I forgot that the French duo Native covered Earth, Wind and Fire's 1979 classic... When I heard it while trying to cool down after another painful day, the lyrics hit me like a bomb, and I instinctively knew I had to request it...
Today's episode was another great 4+ hour musical trip. It was even more special because it fell on David's Birthday, so of course the Balearic Breakfast Family was thinking about him, and some songs brought back memories of happy dancing moments, you know... Boogie Wonderland...
Listen back to episode 26-40 of Balearic Breakfast:
Yesterday’s Balearic Breakfast is now up on my Mixcloud and ready for listening – all 5 hours of it. It’s a musical marathon in tribute to Black History Month and thank you to everyone who contributed some of their favourite songs and artists. It’s a journey through many different musical terrains and showcases a wide range of Black musicianship and creativity. And there’s some great social commentary within the lyrics.
One way in which we can celebrate Black musicianship and entrepreneurialism right now is by signing the petition to SAVE THE BBE STORE (link in my linktree). BBE Records is celebrating its 30th anniversary as a record label and they’ve released incredible records from J Dilla to Brian Jackson and the Strange Game and Things comp which I snagged as soon as it came out. Ten years ago, BBE opened a record shop in an industrial area of Hackney – near the railway arches. The store quickly became both a musical and community hub with a programme of free events, birthday parties, DJ sets and live performances and has included appearances by many of my friends - Louie Vega, DJ Spinna, Handson Family, Marcia Carr, Brian Jackson, Love Injection, Francois K, Rich Medina, Alina Bzhezhinska, The Mighty Zaf… the list goes on and on and on. I would argue it’s one of the most important community venues in London and it’s a Black-owned business.
This week Hackney Council are reviewing their license in the wake of noise complaints by new residents in the flats that were recently built across the street. They even made a noise complaint on a Monday when the BBE Store was closed. Seriously. Even our mayor Sadiq Khan understands that these types of venues and businesses are instrumental to London culture and social progress. It would be tragic for our community if BBE is shut down so please, please, please sign the petition (link in my linktree). Thanks for listening.
