Worldwide FM broadcast the 28th episode of Balearic Breakfast on March 9th 2021.
For the very first themed Balearic Breakfast, Colleen invited the family members to request songs featuring female musicianship in celebration of International Women’s Day (a day during which women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political); and boy did we all happily oblige! When Colleen puts the "request line" on her socials a few days before the show, it is always an event for all of us. We really take this as a game, seeing friends requesting songs and being like, « Of course! How did I not think about that one, and that one, argh! » (laughs)!
As said in the previous post, discovering new music, or music you have never heard before, is really a key element of the show. This was the case here while discovering the great Millie Jackson! I still remember I stopped working to listen to her singing « If Loving You Is Wrong» (also famously and oh how perfectly covered by the great Percy Sledge). Boy, that ending got me down on my knees, and I listened to the whole "Caught Up" album in the dark the same night! What an experience it has been!
With Colleen’s touch, this show demonstrates how well music can flow when a selector knows his thing; the following track, «Speak Low,» is a perfect example of how to keep a vibe on float! Recorded in 1956, this song sadly showcases Billie Holliday’s already strained voice. Also, Colleen got a little bit more "Political" than before, but we always learn a thing or two thanks to this! Colleen also shared with us a playlist posted on Spotify (which you can find here) celebrating music created by women, showcasing how much they had to share in this "Man's Man's Man's World" of ours, not to mention Colleen's book, published on November 2019, 18th, which still is available for purchase!

On a side note, when listening back to this 27th edition of Balearic Breakfast, I noticed that Joni Mitchell's "Black Crow" shared some similarities to a Polish rock song by 'Perfect' entitled "Lokomotywa Z Ogłoszenia" (listen to the guitar notes)!
