Worldwide FM broadcast the 29th episode of Balearic Breakfast on March 16th 2021.
Sometimes, the title of a show comes from a slightly different place than usual. When listening to these "first" Balearic Breakfast episodes, I, sadly enough, still have the "COVID-19" light flashing in my memory... Strangely enough, this title has, intellectually speaking, a dual meaning.
The first one is of course what the show itself "sends" to me, and this episode is absolutely Balearic in its spirit. I don't feel like I can take a more precise image of it other than the one of a musical trip because of the songs played. So, we are close to the definition of the Vortex, which really is "a mass of fluid (such as a liquid) with a whirling or circular motion that tends to form a cavity or vacuum in the centre of the circle and to draw toward this cavity or vacuum bodies subject to its action".
The second interpretation, a more indirect one, finds its logic when you take into account the other definition of what is a vortex "a dangerous or bad situation in which you become more and more involved and from which you cannot escape". And this is where I stopped, asking myself, "Can you use this word and link it to this episode?" But I quickly loved the duality of the title, bringing up what the show was all about, helping us to fight that other reality the Balearic Breakfast Family was experiencing, with a huge amount of resilience, and hope, but also loads of sadness and despair, not to mention courage, we all had tremendous courage. So I kept this title. And it is so true that the times were at a cross point where some of us were going out of lockdown (Great Britain) whereas others were about to experience a new period of constraints (France)...
