THE LISTENING EXPERIENCE

Each Balearic breakfast show has its soul, this episode breathes differently from all others. It has strong imagery, the one of a flying ship coming from nowhere and heading to unknown destinations. Thanks to their relaxed feeling (like the 2nd track), a lot of tracks help us picture the flying ship. Of course, this is the case with the opening track, Caoilfhionn Rose's Paths, which has a profound, free and ethereal feeling. Also, the Yacht Rock tracks requested by the Balearic Family (a new documentary just came out, if you want to expand your vinyl collection, be my guest!) help in picturing the ship (listen to Richie Havens's Dreams – a nice cover of Fleetwood Mac's 1977 song also Wing's Arrow Through Me – and of course Charme's Georgy Porgy – a song originally recorded by the rock band Toto on their 1978 and first studio album, and based upon a nursery rhyme of the same name).

The pinnacle of this 35th episode happens when Colleen plays Confidence Man's Out The Window (Greg Wilson & Ché Wilson Mix) / The Osmonds' I, I, I / Metro Area's Things Fall / Ashra's Bamboo Sands (which made me think of The Mysterious Cities of Gold's soundtrack which has a close sonic signature). There's your mighty ship proudly flying in the Balearic Skies (can you hear in your head the windy sound it makes while travelling?)... A Wow Moment of the show for sure!

Even during the second part of the show, the vision stays strong and realistic, pay attention to the sound effects in the tracks (xx for instance). As always, Colleen’s mixing helps the listener’s mind to picture the flying ship at several moments of this 35th episode.

Closing the show with a beautiful tribute to Prince, the cleverly organised and mixed songs leave us in a dreamy mood as the Flying ship slowly disappears in the distance…
