Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy broadcast the 244th episode of Balearic Breakfast on her Mixcloud on October 28th 2025.

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

I would like to dedicate this post to our friend, Christina de Souza (Tee) who passed away a few months ago. I send my heartfelt condolences to her Family, her close friends, and everyone who knew her. May she rest in Musical Paradise...

You will not be forgotten Christina.

Coming back from the USA, where she played at Public Records (where she met a few Balearicans including our friend Barry who will be featured on the blog soon in an exclusive interview), Colleen recorded another great episode for uswith a widely open musical soul  – including new tunes, a new Cosmodelica remix and also an exclusive mix by Bex in the City.

And, as Colleen stated, Bexx "is hugely inspired by jazz, and the informal jazz sessions held in her parents' house, in which they were graced by none other than Charles Mingus. And she's also a child of The Loft and Paradise Garage, and she's also DJ with Yvonne Turner and Francois K. She has some lovely mixes up on Mixcloud. And this is the one she did exclusively for Balearic Breakfast, and it's very deep."

Everyone on the chat enjoyed Bexx's mix. It's hard not to enjoy such a Beautiful piece of Music blending jazzy, groovy, spacy, classic rock tracks in one single mix, not mentionning the absolute perfect timing... Our friend Kay said "Epic set, really lovely and a perfect soundtrack for this gorgeous autumnal morning in London!" while our pal "bonbon" shared "Thank you Bexx the flow was perfect for my morning!"

I took the time to listen to it again as I was working my way through this post and it really is a Splendid Musical companion. Listen to that one with your eyes closed and Feel its Openness take you Away... And remember, listening is an act of Love...

This morning’s Balearic Breakfast is now up on my Mixcloud and features some new tunes, a brand new Cosmodelica remix and a mix from my friend Bexx in the City. Bexx is a friend and a New York City member of the Balearic Breakfast family and has also DJ-ed with Yvonne Turner and Francois K. Her mix is deep and everyone on the live chat this morning loved it. I know you wil, too.

As I write I’m at JFK airport heading back to London and as always had a great time in NYC. Bexx and I even had dinner with the one and only Randy Muller – the legend of Brass Construction and Skyy fame (swipe for the photo op. I have been a huge fan of his groove based productions for decades and look forward to the new music on the horizon.

This Friday I’ll be back at Freddy’s at Pike’s for their Halloween party which is also the closing party of the season. I’ve had so much fun spinning in Mercury’s bedroom this summer and look forward to the last blast. Then I’ll be back on Tuesday streaming Balearic Breakfast live on my Mixcloud and the request line will go up on Saturday. Have a great week and thanks for listening!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

(from Colleen's presentation)

This morning, I'm on my way back from New York to London. And thank you to my husband, Adam, for holding the fort down and streaming for me and to all who joined in on my MixCloud Live. And also thanks to those who dressed up and walked the night and came along to Public Records on Saturday. It was great to see you. And because Halloween is my favorite holiday, this week I'm DJing at another Halloween party, this Friday at Pike's in Ibiza. And it's my last time, actually, in the White Isle this season.

(...)

Last month, our first Classic Album Sundays at Hidden Grooves, was with DeLotta, Patrick Forge, and Chris Frank talking about their debut album. And it was a fantastic, fantastic session. I just love this new venue.

And the next one we are holding is on Wednesday, the 19th of November at Hidden Grooves, and we're featuring Six Degrees, the debut album by Mark DeClive Lowe, which originally came out on Cog Transmissions in his native New Zealand. Mark will be with us to tell the entire story, and you can reserve free tickets on the Classic Album Sundays website. But hurry, because they are limited.

(...)

Next Tuesday I'll be streaming live again from the Record Room, and the request line will go up on my socials on Saturday.

ABOUT THE SONGS

(from Colleen's presentation)

Ancient Infinity Orchestra with All I Can Say of the Blossoms. And that's from their latest album, It's Always About Love, which came out on Gondwana last month. And Ancient Infinity Orchestra is a 15-member jazz ensemble led by double bassist and composer Ozzy Moysey from Leeds, which is home to one of the most innovative and community-based jazz scenes in the UK. And Moyse says "there is a need for love and connectedness. You pour the love you have into the music and people listening can feel it". And I can certainly hear it and feel it. I can feel those healing forces of the life energy of music in their work, definitely.

This next one is by Bradley Lucke and Mark Crooks, under the name Statues. They have released records on Claremont 56, Is It Balearic?, and MM Discos. And their latest EP is called Power Hour, and it came out on Balearic Ensemble a few months ago. And the whole EP is mesmerizing, with its shimmering synth work and pulsating grooves. Here is the title track, Power Hour.

Neon Gods by Yarni, a sonic traveler, a multi-instrumentalist, DJ, live performer, and a Sheffield United fan. His new album, in which he collaborated with 10 different musicians, is called Anemoia, which is what the Greeks call a nostalgic longing for a bygone era. And Yarny is calling it a culmination of his 38 years of life experiences woven into a tapestry of sound that blends the past with the present.

Ada Morghe with Passion Play, my new Cosmodelica remix. And that is coming out, I think, very soon. And Ada Morghe was born Alexandra Helmig, and after a successful career as an actress and award-winning author, she transitioned into music with critically acclaimed albums that fused jazz, soul, and reggae. And her fourth album, which features the original of that single, Pure Good Vibes, was produced by Livingstone Brown and was inspired by a trip to Jamaica. And it also has reggae legend Maxi Priest on it.

And yeah, I remixed another Ada Morg song. I think it was last year, a more bluesy, gospely number called We Are One.

Nando De Luca with Kamasultra, originally released in 1978, and now with fresh new remixes from Danilo Braca, which just came out on Best Records out of Italy. And that's the Italian pianist, composer, and arranger, Fernando De Luca. A Milanese composer, an acclaimed jazz musician, very serious. Yet he accepted this strange recording project for fun. It's a true novelty, but I think that mix sounds fantastic. Very, very credible, Danilo. Thank you. Grazie mille.

This next group really seems to blend the past with the present. In fact, they sound very, very retro. And it's one of the jam bands on the Space Grapes label, which I absolutely love. And, you know, live musicians playing great boogie, funk, jazz, so many great records by artists, groups like Jambone and Mad Honey and Another Taste. And this one is a new one from Another Taste, a new one called Run Into Love.

One of the Balearic Breakfast family's favorite Deep House producers, Charles Webster, with South African new jazz vocalist, Bokani Dyer, with the song The Artist. And that's the last single before the forthcoming album From the Hill lands. It lands next month in November. And it features an array of South African musicians, so you can find out more on Bandcamp.

(...) Six Degrees, the debut album by Mark DeClive-Lowe, which originally came out on Cog Transmissions in his native New Zealand. Then it was picked up by Universal Jazz UK, and it was recently reissued on Be With Records. Mark blended live musicianship with Fender Rhodes, synths, and MPC 2000, and future-facing beats. And the album grew out of a formative year when a 23-year-old Mark traveled from San Francisco to Havana, to London, to Tokyo, and to New York, absorbing scenes and sounds while collaborating with mentors and peers. (...) From Six Degrees, this is Round Trip.

Leaving you with another jazzy number, this time by The James Taylor Quartet, who've been putting out great music for decades. Got to see them at the Jazz Cafe a few years ago.
