ABOUT THIS EPISODE
August is always a busy month for our Captain, and she could be found, among other musical places, at the Houghton Festival where she played a memorable set. She shared her memories of the last events she did at the beginning of this great episode, and was very happy to see how many of us were online with her today!
Today's episode has that "cosmic" opening (and a few musical references to the solar eclipse that is about to happen on August 12th), and also a lot of songs with an affirmed rhythmic soul (and structure) which perfectly represented both Colleen's busy musical adventure and our own life under the deathening sun...
The Familly gathered in a joyful musical moment, absolutely loving Colleen's set (including the small wink to David Mancuso as Prepare to Energize was played by our beloved friend at his 1984 Loft Party at Prince Street).
Not to forget, our Friend Terry Fincham is playing his London debut at the Chop shop Tavern on August 15th (141 Tilbury Road)! Enjoy!

This morning’s Balearic Breakfast is now archived on my Mixcloud and available to listen back. Today’s show is mainly requests including tunes inspired by tomorrow’s solar eclipse - we’ll be able to see about 90% of the sun covered by the moon tomorrow evening in the UK. And if you get up early enough - about an hour before sunrise, and without too much light pollution and a clear horizon - you may be able to see six planets - Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune - in an arc just over the horizon. And on top of that, tomorrow is a new moon and in the evening until dawn on Thursday morning, the meteor showers we see in August will be at their peak - as this is the month our planet travels through the debris left by the Swift-Tuttle comet. On today’s Balearic Breakfast we also paid tribute to an otherworldly musical talent, the late William Orbit who sadly transitioned to the next realm in July. As a producer, musician and composer he worked with some of the most commercially successful stars on the planet including Madonna for whom he produced the Ray of Light album, a highlight in her discography that won two Grammy Awards. Alongside his commercial endeavours. he was also an experimental music pioneer. I first got into him via his Strange Cargo album in 1987 - the record company had sent the radio station a cassette and as we didn’t play cassettes I snagged it and listened to it over and over on my Sony Walkman and was transported into his multi-faceted musical world. William Orbit rest in musical paradise.
