ABOUT THIS EPISODE


Colleen will surely keep one moment close to her heart: meeting the great Tony Humphries during her trip in Chicago. Playing back-to-back with the legend is, as she described it on her socials, a "Bucket list moment"! We must thank our dear captain for sharing that great picture with us!

Despite an unstable Wifi signal, preventing us all from enjoying the stream and the chat as we should have (we all experienced dropouts and the connection was lost several times during the two-hour show), the Balearic Breakfast Family gathered on Mixcloud and enjoyed the moment to the maximum, although even Colleen refrained from taking part in the chat to help the situation!

Speaking about the episode, I did take the time to read a few reviews about the new Root Down 30 compilation, and there is one which was written by a French Journalist (you can find it here) which states: "Anniversary compilations often end up as museum pieces. A few classics, a neatly arranged chronology, and just enough nostalgia to reassure the regulars. Root Down 30, however, takes a different path. Rainer Trüby is not trying to sum up 30 years of club nights, let alone recreate some ideal night. Instead, he brings together tracks capable of carrying the same warmth across different territories: deep house, jazz-funk, Afro-Latin rhythms, electronic soul, and Brazilian music, whose many offshoots he has been exploring for decades. Back in the 1990s, long before eclecticism became a common selling point, Root Down was already bringing these different languages together in Freiburg. Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Theo Parrish, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Laurent Garnier, Dixon, Peter Kruder, and Richard Dorfmeister all passed through this dancefloor, which, far from the usual capitals, became a meeting point for the European underground."

The mix curated by Rainer Trüby is simply the Coolest one we ever got to hear on the show. If you want to relax, if you want to relieve your nervous system, this is the mix you need to listen to! Of course, with our Captain being such a Class Act, you can expect to have an extended musical journey here... And this is exactly what happens as Lil’ Minx mix keeps the cool groove steady! That's what's great here at Balearic Breakfast, the greatest music is played by the greatest DJs who know how to unify the musical moment... IN other words, you can't go wrong! As I’m still in Brooklyn, this week’s show features a special guest mix from Rainer Trüby and I also have a chat with him and Daybreakers record label honcho Miche about the new Root Down 30 compilation celebrating three decades of the iconic club night. I’ve been so busy city-hopping and disc-jocking that I haven’t had a chance to share what I’ve been up to but over the next couple of days I’ll have a chance to catch my breath and will share some pics and thoughts of what has turned out to be an epic trip.
