After playing an intense set at the Sonar Festival (the weather was very hot, and, speaking of that, France has been hit by a heatwave with temperatures rising above 40°C!), where she met our Friend Ana, Colleen came back and presented a prerecorded show, with two great guests, and musical friends two, in the name of DJ Philippa and DJ Jeannie Hopper.

Groovy housey vibes on this week’s Balearic Breakfast - now up on my Mixcloud for your listening pleasure. This week’s radio show features two guest interviews and mixes.

First up is New Zealand born & raised and Berlin based DJ and producer Philippa. She’s been crafting some great deep house tunes for labels like Freerange Records and SlothBoogie and now has a fabulous series called Panther Cuts on her bandcamp. In our chat she relayed how the Kiwi music scene & its caretakers set her on her musical journey.

Next up is my dear friend and long term colleague radio host & DJ Jeannie Hopper of Liquid Sound Lounge ltd. Jeannie and I came up as young DJs and broadcasters on the early 90s in New York - she was on WBAI and I was on WNYU and she worked at Eightball Records and I worked at Dance Tracks and so on and so on. She was also the first one to host boat dance parties on nyc and the photo above is from one of those special parties nearly a decade ago. I think you’ll find her story that starts as a political journalist and leads her to dance music fascinating. There is also a gofundme campaign for Jeannie is she is facing high medical costs due to an accident - find out more on her socials.
