- Balearic Breakfast | Episode 11 | Antonio Bay...
Worldwide FM broadcast the 11th episode of Balearic Breakfast on November 10th 2020. On November 7th 2020, most American media projected that Joseph Biden had enough electoral votes to be named the new US president-elect. So, it is with confidence and happiness that the Balearic Breakfast Family was heading to a new destination, the Fog slowly disappearing from the ocean's surface despite the lockdown still being enforced worldwide... Magical musical moments seem to be the norm in our beloved show: if you let yourself go, you should be able, while listening to the three first songs of the show, to “see” the Balearic breakfast’s family trip to the now not-so-distant Antonio bay ... Let your imagination take control! This 11th show is as Balearic as it can get, in every way, both spiritually and musically. Colleen’s mixing is perfect (she showcases for instance, that silence is a beat...). The entire show is relaxed, and the tracks depict the joy we all had being together again! When Colleen played “slippery people” we all went nuts with happiness in the chat, cheering and laughing like children about Colleen’s disco slippers! This show, with its open-minded and loving ending, was a real Party (I think we lost our minds when Colleen mixed Gregory Porter's "Liquid spirit" with Cerrone's Supernature ! I mean, if this ain't a perfect mix, then nothing perfect exists on this earth !). One thing is for sure, the Balearic Breakfast Family enjoyed it to bits! - Balearic Breakfast | Episode 13 | The lost Milky Way...
Worldwide FM broadcast the 13th episode of Balearic Breakfast on November 24th 2020. Listen back to the 13th episode of Balearic Breakfast : Sometimes, I get very emotional when listening to some of Balearic Breakfast's Shows. You may wonder why. I think the best answer I could give is that they encapsulate emotions both of the hard times and good times we were living back then. This show is an absolute emotional roller coaster: as Colleen puts it at the beginning of the show, it is a “Very cosmic edition of Balearic Breakfast”, which is very well represented in the music and Colleen's mixing. But it is also an emotional trip because of Colleen's daughter's birthday (she turned 16 back then), making us all remember that time flies and that the time that was taken away from us because of the pandemic would never be retrieved. Sure, we were fortunate to be all together, but a lot of us were starting to get emotionally fragile because we could not live normal lives or meet friends. Some people were also losing their companies because they could not work... 2020 was a horrendous year on many levels, and these few lines serve just as an incomplete reminder of what we all went through. And believe me, it was tough. So, at the end of this show, despite its intrinsic beauty, the Balearic Breakfast family felt somewhat "rattled" and Colleen's speech, as always, depicts that overall feeling very well. Musically speaking, the show had magical moments where you could drift away and head over to the sky and lose yourself inside the milky way... Also, I do not know a lot of other DJs that would be able to let their love breathe out the way Colleen did when she talked about her daughter's birthday... (listen to the moment she launches Ashford & Simpson's "Babies", can you feel it ?...) So yeah, this show was special and one that still gets me emotional today. This is why I feel like sharing this quote with you. I am sure that you will understand the feeling... All men have stars, but they are not the same for everyone. For some, who are travellers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems... But all these stars are silent. You, you alone will have stars as no one else has them... In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing when you look at the sky at night... You, only you, will have stars that can laugh! And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me... You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, just for that moment... It will be as if, in place of the stars, I had given you a great number of little bells that knew how to laugh... - Balearic Breakfast | Episode 12 | The Balearic Hammock
Worldwide FM broadcast the 12th episode of Balearic Breakfast on November 17th 2020. Some of Balearic Shows simply let you Breathe. You know, like, you close your eyes and let yourself drift away. This is definitely one of them. The Breakfast Family's requests were all going in the same direction: straight ahead towards freedom, a very needed freedom back then as we were all in lockdown. So any track that helped us to escape from our homes was very welcomed on that November day... And this is precisely what we all choose on that very refreshing show. No stress, just some great music, a beautiful sun shining on a beach and, somewhere, a few people dancing, others sleeping under a palm tree and of course... Of Course, a little lion cub splashing his paws in the clear blue water... In a few words, if I were to find a mental representation for this 12th edition of Balearic Breakfast it would be the one of a Balearic hammock... This show is a very cool one, so come on, join us !! - Balearic Breakfast | Episode 14 | Lonely walks...
Worldwide FM broadcast the 14th episode of Balearic Breakfast on December 1st 2020. Let's go for a walk on a lonely shore... : December. Wow. After so many months of uncertainty, we were all seeing the end of 2020 approaching. So many people had died from Covid, so many Families suffered from the pandemic, from the restrictions, so many companies had to close, so many old people left lonely, empty streets and boulevards all around the world allowing nature to glow like never before... The world was upside down. Yet we were going to celebrate Christmas in a few days. Wow. Still in lockdown at the time, all we had ahead of us, really, was music, and Balearic Breakfast. This show was our Anchor. And it still is to this very day (February 2023 as I'm writing these lines). Strangely, or maybe not after all..., the Balearic Breakfast Family magic happened again in this December's edition of our beloved show. Listening to this show, can you picture the ocean's pounding waves while your lonely soul walks on the shore during the sunset ? ... I get so god damn lonely and sad and filled with regrets some days. It overwhelms me as I’m sitting on the bus; watching the golden leaves from a window; a sudden burst of realisation in the middle of the night. I can’t help it and I can’t stop it. I’m alone as I’ve always been and sometimes it hurts…. but I’m learning to breathe deep through it and keep walking. I’m learning to make things nice for myself. To comfort my own heart when I wake up sad. To find small bits of friendship in a crowd full of strangers. To find a small moment of joy in a blue sky, in a trip somewhere not so far away, a long walk an early morning in December, or a handwritten letter to an old friend simply saying ”I thought of you. I hope you’re well.” No one will come and save you. No one will come riding on a white horse and take all your worries away. You have to save yourself, little by little, day by day. Build yourself a home. Take care of your body. Find something to work on. Something that makes you excited, something you want to learn. Get yourself some books and learn them by heart. Get to know the author, where he grew up, what books he read himself. Take yourself out for dinner. Dress up for no one but you and simply feel nice. it’s a lovely feeling, to feel pretty. You don’t need anyone to confirm it. I get so god damn lonely and sad and filled with regrets some days, but I’m learning to breathe deep through it and keep walking. I’m learning to make things nice for myself. Slowly building myself a home with things I like. Colors that calm me down, a plan to follow when things get dark, a few people I try to treat right. I don’t sometimes, but it’s my intent to do so. I’m learning.I’m learning to make things nice for myself. I’m learning to save myself. I’m trying, as I always will. - Balearic Breakfast | Episode 15 | Claremont beach
Worldwide FM broadcast the 15th episode of Balearic Breakfast on December 8th 2020. You wake up. You eat. You take a shower. You go to your desk. You work. You take your lunch and your coffee. You work. You take a tea. You work while listening to some music. You close your computer. You take a nap. You eat your dinner. You wash your dishes. You watch a movie. You listen to some music. You sleep. You wake up. Repeat for 80 days (more or less, depending on the country you were living in December 2020). Feel the alienation building? A lot of us, including myself, were exhausted mentally and physically as, in some parts of the world, lockdown measures were still enforced and, unlike in Great Britain, where these measures were already lifted, we still had one more week to go not knowing back then that 2021 would be even worse for some of us, these 2 first lockdowns being just a warm-up... Somehow we had to carry on. So we all let ourselves go to Colleen’s musical selections and that show had a specific tone, the one of a lonely, cloudy and windy beach you can picture in songs like “it hasn’t happened yet” by William Shatner. Undoubtedly, on this Balearic Breakfast’s edition, Music was the only escape for a lot of us and it was even more so because of Colleen’s interview, in the second hour of the show, with John “Mudd” Murphy, founder of the Claremont 56 record label! - Balearic Breakfast | Episode 16 | A gasp of Air...
Worldwide FM broadcast the 16th episode of Balearic Breakfast on December 15th 2020. The world was taking a gasp of air on this cold Tuesday as, in almost all cities of the world, restrictive measures had been lifted, allowing people, friends, and families to prepare for Christmas. Yet, no one was really happy, I very vividly remember that feeling of uncertainty lingering in all I was doing. It was a difficult time as we all had news about hospitals trying to cope with the global pandemic with more people dying because of Covid coming in... It is with these memories still present in my mind that I listened to this show, the 16th of the series. From the start, I felt that only a cold, snowy, windy and abandoned beach was an acceptable representation of it... Once again, the Balearic Breakfast's Family magic operated as Colleen mixed the requests... Listen to this snowy 16th episode of Balearic Breakfast here : “With luck, it might even snow for us.” ― Haruki Murakami, After Dark, 2004 As always, Colleen is on top of the game, she even prepared the wonderful wreath you can see on the second picture of the gallery for us! Isn't that great? That beautiful gift sure did warm our cold hearts back then, I can tell you! Also, as Colleen earlier suggested, she kept on playing new music in the course of the show, introducing us here to The Aspphodelis & Friendly Fires' track "Velo" which would end on the first Balearic Breakfast vinyl compilation later in 2021! "Thanks to all of you for your contributions. It has beentruly mind blowing and I have discovered and rediscovered a lot of great music. I'm also taking a fairly open minded approach to what constitutes Balearic Music - almost like a jazz approach - open ended and free. I don't want it to be solely a nostalgia trip so from time to time I will introduce new music that I feel works." Colleen, Instgr., 27/09/2020 Lastly, and on a more positive note, I found that the beautiful track "Pyramid" by The Fantastics ! was very close in spirit to some tracks of the "Blue Pyramid" album by Johnny Hodges and Wild Bill Davis issued in 1965 (another Jazz masterpiece you really should consider listening !). PLAYLIST Joni Mitchell – River Joan Armatrading – Love and affection Bruce Springsteen – I'm on fire (Cousin Cole's Bad Desire Mix) A mountain of one – Bones Electra – Autumn love (future 3) Nicole – New-York Eyes Asha Puthli – Space Talk Flowers – For real Brenda Russell – Hello People The Fantastics ! – Pyramid Donald Byrd – Lansana's Priestess Chaz Jankel – 3.000.000 Synths The Aspphodelis & Friendly Fires – Velo Nitin Sawhney – Homelands / Can't find (The Joe Claussel Remix) The Beloved – It's alright (Back to basics) Disco Knights – Amerika Marvin Gaye – Inner city blues (makes me wanna holler) The show was archived on Worldwide FM : Balearic Breakfast: Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy // 15-12-20 | WorldwideFM
- Balearic Breakfast | Episode 17 | A Cloudy Christmas...
Worldwide FM broadcast the 17th episode of Balearic Breakfast on December 22nd 2020. “Christmas isn't just a day, it's a frame of mind.” I don't remember the snow falling on that cold December day; I remember it being cloudy and somewhat happy (as the Christmas tree had already been set up). The Balearic Breakfast Family eagerly awaited a new edition of its beloved show. Hearing the opening track made me smile, and I felt, as often, instantly at Home. This 17th edition of Balearic Breakfast may be the most laid-back of the series since the show's start in September. Colleen's selection and how she mixes the tracks together give the listener that perfect Christmas vibe: for instance, we get to discover another beautiful song that was to be included in the first Balearic Breakfast compilation, Mike Salta's "Henry's Spacewalk" followed by the somewhat worried "Ullyses" by Dead can dance and then by the dreamy (yet slightly sad) rendition of "California Dreaming" by José Feliciano... You can't miss the Christmas spirit when listening to these songs! And even when the rhythm is getting faster, later in the show, you can picture yourself drinking a lovely Balearic Breakfast tea near a snowy Balearic Christmas tree on a beautiful island. Now, tell me, how Balearic is that ?! Listen to a very relaxed Christmas edition of Balearic Breakfast : PLAYLIST Chilly Gonzales – The Banister Bough Mike Salta & Mortale – Henry's Spacewalk Dead can dance – Ulysses José Feliciano – California Dreaming Seu Jorge & Rogé – Sarava Serginho Meriti – Bons momentos DJ Disse – Walk on the wild side (Ibiza dream mix) Ned Doheny – To prove my love Babe Ruth – Elusive Zebra Crossing – Life after life Lorenzo Morresi & Tendelonious – Cosmica Italiana Lars Bartkuhn – Nomad (full Experience) Trilogy – Love Me Forever or Love me not (Dub of doom mix) Rudoulpho – Sunday Afternoon Walter Hawkins & The Love Center Choir – Goin' Up Yonder Imagination – Changes Kate Bush – 50 words for snow Vangelis – To the Unknown man
- 1989 – Neville Brothers: Yellow Moon
Released in March 1989, "Yellow Moon" is an album and a song by the Neville Brothers. If the album was very well received both by the critics and the public, the song is considered to this very day to be the best example of what the Neville Brothers were all about: Musicianship. I really don't know what's happening to me right now. I feel like I'm a "crybaby". Tears seem to roll anytime for no reason at all. Anyway, let me take my handkerchief close to me; I'll need it in a few minutes (laughs)! "Yellow Moon" has got to be, no, sorry... "Yellow Moon" is my absolute favourite "Balearic Breakfast" track. If I remember correctly, it was requested somewhere in the second half of 2022, and I immediately fell in love with it (thank you to whoever requested it, I will find your name brother and will post it here!). I loved everything about it: the lyrics, the rhythm, the groove and, of course, last but not least, the musicianship the Neville Brothers always provided when they played the track live. It has everything I love in Music; it allows the listener to sway, to drift away, it brings a lot of emotions in a nice time frame, and it does not impose itself on the listener; it's a never-ending present. Let's listen to the album version to get into the mood! Yellow moon, yellow moon, why you keep peeping in my window? Do you know something I don't know? Did you see my baby walking down the railroad tracks? You can tell me if the girls ever coming back. Is she hid out with another or is she trying to get back home? Is she wrapped up in some other's arms? Or is the girl somewhere all alone? Can you see if she is missing me, or is she having a real good time? Has she forgotten all about, or is the girl still mine all mine? With your eye so big a shiney You can see the whole damn land Yellow moon can you tell me If the girl's with another man? Oh yellow moon, have you seen that creole woman You can tell me, Now ain't you a friend of mine. When Colleen played the track, she chose a live rendition of it. This is also one of the Things about "Balearic Breakfast" that make it so unique: we got to hear tracks both in the way they were recorded and also the way they were performed live, depending on the vibe Colleen wants to convey. It's so nice because a track like "Yellow Moon" shows its potential on stage. And believe me, discovering a track like that one in a great live version is Truly Mesmerising. It brings back to my mind what David Mancuso once said about requests being made at the loft : "I would take requests. And I play the requests in the order that they were given to me, because I wanted people to participate. Then what started to happen was someone would ask, “David, could you play?” And I just happened to have it in my hand. I’m ready to push the button. You get to a psychic level. You know what I mean. You can’t explain it. There’s a higher level; a higher power. Not preaching or anything, this is about music." If we take these wise words, and simply think about the song, it seems obvious that "Yellow Moon" takes you on a Musical trip, you get to a psychic level. Yes, you can't explain it. There is a Higher level in that song, a higher power, and this is about Music. I think I've heard a dozen versions of the song being performed live, including one of the very last made by Aaron a few years ago, and each one of these versions had its own story and showed something I've not heard before; this song is an endless sea of Musical possibilities! And I will prove it to you in a few minutes; just let me talk a little about the Neville Brothers. The Neville Brothers were an American R&B/soul/funk group formed in 1976 in New Orleans, Louisiana and consisted of Aaron (vocals), Art (vocals, keyboards), Charles (saxophone) and Cyril (percussions). Together, they issued 9 studio albums, played countless times live and had a lot of hits, including Bird on a Wire, Healing Chant, Fly Like an Eagle, Sister Rosa, of course Yellow Moon and many others. Not to mention that you may have recognised that unmistakable voice... Yes, you're right! That's the one of Aaron singing "Tell it like it Is" (1966), which he re-recorded in 2006. Back to "Yellow Moon". The album, produced by Daniel Lanois and recorded in New Orleans in a vacated apartment, allowed the Neville Brothers to break into the Mainstream. “It didn’t quite get to gold (500,000 copies sold), but it got close. The last I heard, it was well over 300,000 and still selling. I think it was a combination of the album, and the publicity that went before it. Over the years, people have been hearing all these other people (like Richards and Ronstadt) talking about us. I think the combinations of all the things that went on in the ‘80s” led to the breakthrough with “Yellow Moon.” said Charles in an interview with The Los Angeles Times in 1990. Eventually, the track "Healing Chant" won best pop instrumental performance at the 32nd (1989) Grammy Awards. If the whole album is really beautiful (despite its vintage sonic approach), having a strong Balearic Formula to it (simply listen to songs like My Blood, Fire and Brimstone or even Voodoo) and showcasing heartbreaking tracks like "Will the Circle be Unbroken" (trad.) while being at the same time very adventurous (Sister Rosa); it is really "Yellow Moon" that stands out (both because of the structure of the song but also because of its sonic signature, it is one of the "darkest sounding" song of the lot). As I said, the song has been performed live countless times over the years and became a classic in its own right. Here are some of my favourite live versions of the song (which to me is quite close to a blues really). Take the time to listen to the variations, to the tonality of the song, to the way the instruments interact with each other, to the way they blend together while having slightly different tonalities... You'll understand why I cry from happiness whenever I hear the song!

Last Note Sound System founder Giancarlo and his friends regularly attended the Lucky Cloud parties in London, where they befriended the founding musical host, David Mancuso. Since 2013, our Last Note parties in Italy have brought together a community of like-minded spirits through music, sound, dance, and of course, food! Last Note Sound System founder Giancarlo and his friends regularly attended our Lucky Cloud parties in London where he befriended our founding musical host, David Mancuso. With David's guidance, Giancarlo put together a gorgeous audiophile party sound system from the Koetsus to the Klipschorns. Colleen, Mixcloud, 2019 Before "Balearic Breakfast" entered my life, I had no clue what the word "Balearic" stood for. To me, at best, it simply represented "Les îles Baléares", the archipelago in the Balearic Sea, near the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, close to Spain, and anything related to any other island in the world... So when I discovered, thanks to Colleen and her friends, that it was also a "Musical Movement" of its own and that it also encompassed a philosophy, I got interested, like Really interested. Gradually, slowly, steadily, the word "Balearic" entered my life, and I started making connections with other concepts like "Love Saves The Day"... And it all made sense to me; everything was... "connected". I could see David's Philosophy in the music Colleen was playing, in the requests that were made and in that phrase that now has all of my attention: "And remember, just be Balearic..." So, when I heard Colleen's opening selections for the 9th Last Note Party, I knew I had to feature this mix in this blog. I had to. Everything here is Balearic... The initial intention, the record selection, the way the songs are played (some songs were even featured in Colleen's Yoga Playlists)... To experience an authentic and beautiful trip, close your eyes and let Colleen's Soul touch you. You'll never be the same again... - 1986 – Andrew Weatherall : Doll's Mix (Cry Softly)
Just after Andrew passed and we went into lockdown a number of people looked back into their tape collections and found artifacts that Andrew had made for them over the years... Sorting through some archive links and realised this hadn't ever been put onto the stream, only stored on the weatherdrive. Just after Andrew passed and we went into lockdown a number of people looked back into their tape collections and found artifacts that Andrew had made for them over the years. Claire Doll's tape from 1986 was one of the first and she generously shared the sleeve image and (hand written) tracklist and although the tape was lost we recreated it for the Flightpath Estate. Over the next few years Claire subsequently went on to tirelessly create the stunning Weatherdolls and raise thousands for the charities associated with Andrew. Some great 80s tracks here with artists that don't show up that much through other compilations Andrew made, a fantastic artifact showing some early impeccable taste. Thanks so much for Claire and all the others who continually share their precious items with us. Dear Friend, I hope everything is fine and that life treats you well... I needed to write you these few lines. You know, sometimes you need to put things down on a sheet of paper. This is precisely what I felt when I listened to this mixtape... It moved me, and I needed to share my thoughts with you about it. So bear with me; I'll make it short. Well, at least I'll Try. Isn't it hard. Standing in the rain /Yeah You're on the verge of going crazy and your heart's in pain / No one can hear but you're screaming so loud / You feel like you're all alone in a faceless crowd / Isn't it strange how we all get a little bit weird sometimes. Hanson, weird, 1997 I didn't know Andrew Weatherall before discovering him thanks to Balearic Breakfast. I still don’t know much about Andrew, but this mix somehow drove me closer to him. And I guess it came into my life at the right moment, though it isn’t the “happiest” one. Isn’t it strange to see how life puts things together once in a while... Like everything that happens was meant to be, at least somehow... Last week, I had to wave goodbye to someone I liked a lot, and, just last night, that quote by Tori Amos came back to my mind : I think that there is a place where she realizes that people come in and out of your life, sometimes for one day, sometimes for longer, and all of them make you what you are. You can't separate these people out of you. They form who you are, even the ones that you kind of say, 'Well, you know, I don't know if I wanna be formed by them anymore.' But you are in some way... you are, that's why maybe you don't have to look at them so harshly because they have affected you. At the end, though, you know, it's... us as individuals... with our... hmm... with our love for the land, for something untangible that, when soulmates come and go, you're never alone even when you're standing just you and your shoes, because she carry them with you." [Scarlet Stories] How do you express the gratitude, the love, the feelings you have toward someone that changed you? Some of us are fortunate enough to have love stories, just like Andrew did. But sometimes, you don’t even need that. Sometimes, circumstances, life itself, your own mistakes give you the opportunity to get “closer” to someone, a guy, a girl, anyone, even a stranger. And that encounter, the few moments you spent with that person, changes how you see the world, how you see life, and even how you perceive yourself. Then, when it’s all over, when you’re about to say goodbye to "the one", you feel like you owe that person a lot of things. She changed you, sometimes even through the mistakes she made. You’re linked to each other without being best friends or lovers, but you learned from one another. And That matters a lot... Maybe I’m a fool, but this happened quite often to me in the last 20 years. I’ve met people that brought something into my life. Some were friends, some were lovers, and some others were just colleagues from work. But, each time, I felt I gained something important from them. So I wanted to offer these people something special to show them how much I cared. That gift always took the form of a mixtape. I believe this love for mixtapes came from my childhood when I discovered that my mother’s friends were offering her tapes with music she liked. I was 8/9 years old back then, and I remember listening to these tapes with her, discovering artists like Tina Turner, Adriano Celentano, Alan Parson Project and even Paul Young... I felt it was beautiful to offer someone a tape you recorded, something you spent time on... So, I did the same in my own life. And this is where I feel close to Andrew (and also to other people sharing music through mixtapes). I find it heartwarming to offer someone a part of your soul as a “thank you”, secretly hoping they will cherish it over time... Then, the other aspect that got me in Andrew’s mix is its overall “sadness”. I love sad songs, romantic songs, songs of broken promises. To me, these songs are the ones that illustrate the best the “humanity” we all carry inside of us, that very one we try to hide, even to close friends. In this regard, Andrew’s mixtape nails it. The songs he chose here are perfect in the message they carry and in the vast musicalness they offer. Lastly, this beautiful mixtape has a Soul of its own. I’ve listened to it five times in a row. It refuses to leave my mind; there’s a unity in here, a musical and a spiritual one. The purity of it all is so genuine, so open, without anything to restrain it. Every song is an open window to a sad but calm sea, where regrets are carried inside one’s soul without the need to impose sadness on the one the mix is being offered to. This is a “statement” mix, not something that imposes itself on the listener. And that kindness of soul is undoubtedly what makes this mixtape so unique; it has that absolute Balearic spirit, the one of a tired sun accepting its destiny and slowly disappearing in the depth of the blue sea, thus perfectly embodying a sentence I once wrote: « I keep my sadness alive so my joy won’t die »… I made a copy of Andrew's mixtape for you... Please, have a listen ! (you know how to do that, right ?) So, should you meet someone special one day, don't think twice, write them a musical letter… You don’t need to create a whole mix like I do using an audio editor and lots of effects, you don’t need to spend months preparing this. Instead, get a tape recorder and record whatever songs you need to share with the person you feel for. Let your soul speak... Chances are that your tape will stay close to the heart of the person you will give it to… and Andrew won’t be far away either… So share your love, and, as Colleen says: "Remember... just be Balearic…." - My Analog Journal | Session 1/2023
Colleen debuted on the 'My Analog Journal' show on February 15th 2023. Founded by Zag Erlat (Turkish DJ and music Producer who seriously started collecting vinyl in 2017), My Analog Journal (first only a youtube channel show and now a radio one since the launching of the Twitch channel) allows vinyl lovers alike to share their passion for Music on an audiophile setup. In an interview with Nuvo Magazine, Zag explained why he launched the youtube channel: "As a Turkish person, I just felt the lack of content when it comes to Turkish/Anatolian funk music from the '70s. That made me record a vinyl set with Turkish seven-inch records that I had. I shot the episode with a single camera focusing on the turntables, as opposed to the boiler room setup where you only see the DJ". It didn't take long before people got interested in what Zag was sharing, allowing him to propose something even greater involving other music lovers digging into the "old forgotten foreign music" formula. As Zag states: "the joy of coming together for good music is just priceless". Colleen appeared on My Analog Journal on February 15th, 2023, with a selection of records celebrating The Loft's 52 anniversary (the episode was shot earlier in 2023) and stated on her socials, "I was recently asked to play some records by the lovely folks over at @myanalogjournal and you can watch and listen to it now on their YouTube channel. I always like a good remit and as the set is vinyl only and published this week, I did exactly what you thought I may do - celebrate The Loft anniversary. This mix features songs that were played at The Loft by David and/or myself (including a cheeky acetate of one of my remixes), played on pitch and without mixing in Loft style. You may notice the overhead shots are giving new meaning to 'Going Back to My Roots'. What can I say - it was filmed right after I had a long bout of illness and didn't have a chance to get to the hair salon. Now I'm getting to work on the 2-hour interview with David, and if you want to be one of the first to hear it, please sign up to the mailing list on the forthcoming official Loft website at www.loftsavestheday.com Enjoy and love saves the day!" It seems obvious why I decided to include this set in this blog: the Music and the visuals bring us back to the Balearic Spirit Colleen presents every Tuesday morning (some of the tracks were also featured in the show)!
