  • Balearic Breakfast | Episode 19 | Birds in a blinding sun...

Worldwide FM broadcast the 19th episode of Balearic Breakfast on January 5th 2021. Time stood still. Though clocks worldwide were ticking time away, time stood still. Nothing, absolutely nothing, had changed for those living on planet earth. Billions of people were suffocating, slowly dying, eagerly waiting for something to change, hoping for one little good news, one slight hint of hope, a tiny bit of air. But nothing of that would happen at the start of this new year. Instead, the horror movie in which everyone became his own character was going on stronger than before. Since the pandemic began last year, the whole United Kingdom has been engaged in a great national effort to fight Covid. And there is no doubt that in fighting the old variant of the virus, our collective efforts were working and would have continued to work. But we now have a new variant of the virus. It has been both frustrating and alarming to see the speed with which the new variant is spreading. Our scientists have confirmed this new variant is between 50 and 70 per cent more transmissible – that means you are much, much more likely to catch the virus and to pass it on. As I speak to you tonight, our hospitals are under more pressure from Covid than at any time since the start of the pandemic. In England alone, the number of Covid patients in hospitals has increased by nearly a third in the last week, to almost 27,000. That number is 40 per cent higher than the first peak in April. On 29 December, more than 80,000 people tested positive for Covid across the UK – a new record. The number of deaths is up by 20 per cent over the last week and will sadly rise further. My thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones. With most of the country already under extreme measures, it is clear that we need to do more, together, to bring this new variant under control while our vaccines are rolled out. In England, we must therefore go into a national lockdown which is tough enough to contain this variant. That means the Government is once again instructing you to stay at home. On January 4th 2021, it was clear that we were all walking on a dead-end road. Again. Once again. One more time. One time too much. We knew that feeling all too well... Before the new lockdown measures were announced, we were all trying to stay close together, always supporting each other with kind words and, sadly, sharing our fears with Colleen on her socials (sigh). And she was always there, playing our requests (even during her Cosmodelica shows) and replying to our comments. We really stuck together back then . So, when she started that 19th edition of Balearic breakfast, we knew that this show would be a very, very trying one for all of us. What we didn’t know was how incredibly strong Colleen would be, keeping us close to her as never before... Listen to a very defiant and courageous show... Simply put, this show always brings tears to my eyes. It is a tough show. Oh, I know, you find me weird right now. I feel you don’t understand why I keep saying this was a tough show because all you can hear after Colleen’s speech are songs of hope, joyful tunes, great disco tracks and melodies you feel like dancing on. Yeah. Sure. But do you feel the absolute tension in every song too? Can you see crying faces trying to smile amid a worldwide pandemic? Can you feel the despair of people feeling they are losing their lives and their precious time spent away from loved ones? Can you feel the tears rolling down the faces of those affected by the virus and doctors and nurses exhausted to death because of the thousands of people they had to take care of? Do you see the Fog coming in once again? We could. We were locked physically, and on January 5th, we were all starting to die spiritually ... So, in the middle of lost faith, we, the Balearic Breakfast Family, built a sun. We painted it in a Bright Yellowish colour and hung it up high in our painted blue sky. And we started to dance, ferociously, without thinking; we went into a trance, and we danced, danced, danced like we were banging our heads against a wall, without hope but just for the sake of it. Just for the sake of it. Just for the sake and you can feel our rage, you can feel our despair there, right there under the raining sun ... The death dance was on, and we all danced our sad souls out... • Balearic Breakfast | Episode 4 | The Dancing Penguins...

Worldwide FM broadcast the 4th episode of Balearic Breakfast on September 22nd 2020. "One of my favourite quotes is ‘Music is the space between the notes’, attributed to Claude Debussy and later paraphrased by Miles Davis. The silent spaces leave room for our own imagination." Colleen, Elle Decoration, 19/05/21 The sun was hitting the waves as the Balearic Breakfast Familly approached the shore. Suddenly, someone shouted: “Look, Guys! The Penguins are having a ball !” Someone joyfully answered: “They sure do love some Balearic Breakfast music !” The loud laughter went up to the sky and slowly vanished as a light breeze came by... So, yeah, Dancing Penguins , people! Once again, the image of this 4th edition came instantly as the first songs entered my Soul – I must admit I’ve been influenced by the opening track! Still, can you feel the Syncopated Rhythm all the songs have in common? Can you picture the somewhat clumsy yet beautiful Penguins dancing on their tiny feet on “Why can’t I be you” or on “Eminence Front”? I do believe this image fits this fourth edition well. We’re having a musical party for sure! As always, Colleen is on point, and soundwise, you can hear the realism of the music on a lot of the tracks; that's so nice! I remember also that this 4th edition of Balearic Breakfast was very special to me as it was the first time I dared make a request! You always wonder if your request will make the final cut, so you try hard to choose songs that fit the spirit of the show – see Colleen's answer on her socials to yimhoyt asking "What does Balearic mean?" : It's a bit like jazz and is limitless in terms of structure and melody - it's more about an expansive feeling Listen to the fourth edition of Balearic Breakfast here : PLAYLIST Penguin Café Orchestra – Air a Danser Chip Wickham – Double Cross Delegation – Oh Honey Isaac Hayes – Never Can Say Goodbye Lee Oskar – Haunted House Robin Trower – Somebody Calling Donny Hathaway – The Ghetto Elkin & Nelson – Jibaro Quiet Force – Listen to the Music The Who – Eminence Front Raw Silk – Just in Time and Space Dub Marcel – On The Beach Sueno Latino – Sueno Latino’ (Paradise Mix) Depeche Mode – Enjoy the Silence (Timo Maas Mix) The Cure – Why Can’t I Be You (Extended Mix) Grace Jones – La Vie En Rose The show is archived on worldwidefm : Balearic Breakfast with Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy // 22-09-20 | WorldwideFM

  • Balearic Breakfast | Episode 238 | The Rhythm Of Our hearts... (5th Birthday Special - No Audio)

Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy broadcast the 238th episode of Balearic Breakfast on her Mixcloud on September 17th 2025. ABOUT THIS EPISODE After celebrating the 4th Balearic Breakfast compilation alongside DJ Korbian (thank you Ian for allowing me to share your pictures and videos here!) at the London's NT Loft, Colleen posted the request line on her socials on Saturday, September 13th, saying: This Tuesday marks the 5th anniversary of Balearic Breakfast and in celebration this week’s show will feature songs you discovered on the programme. Please make your suggestions in the comments below and if you want to check out tracklists from the last 5 years, head over to the Balearic Breakfast community blog where you can also read interviews with some of the show’s past guests. Please only request a song that you first heard on the show (we’ll save new tunes for next week). Balearic Breakfast started in the midst of the pandemic in 2020 and the weekly gathering of like-minded musical souls and the musical exchange of the request line was a lifeline to many - including myself. I have received so many emails, messages, cards, gifts from people saying the show helped them get through the pandemic, health concerns and other challenges. It was the same for me. The Balearic Breakfast family has been a massive well of support when I was going through some pretty terrible times. It still is. Over the years the show has featured many guest DJs and artists but also mixes from members of the community - most of whom do not have a musical vocation like myself but who are very passionate and knowledgeable about music. It has been a joy to watch other community members support one another - I’m so proud. Hundreds of shows, four compilations on Heavenly and parties throughout the world are testament to the weekly programme and community. Today we are celebrating the release of my Balearic Breakfast 4 compilation on Heavenly Recordings and the show’s anniversary at NTs Loft where I’ll be joined by Heavenly Jukebox and Pete Wings of Saint Etienne. I’m in awe of Balearic Breakfast’s impact and grateful to everyone who has made it what it is. Its much bigger than myself. I hope you can celebrate with us on Tuesday. The show streams live on my Mixcloud Live beginning at 10am and going on until whenever. Thanks so much for listening. As per usual, the Familly gathered on September, 16th on Colleen's Mixcloud, happy as ever. There was a lot of requests, and Colleen was able to take an incredible amount of them into account, including the very last few, such as the one made by our pal Kieran "Glad you got it on time! Wish I had more time to go through five years of show tracklists" . Despite a few sound issues (some of us had a lot of bass with a somehow boxy sound while others complained the sound was thin), the whole 5 hour musical experience went without a hitch, we even had a member of the Family celebrating his own Birthday (Happy Birthday once again Scot)! Among the regular listeners, we also had new listeners joining the fun, as Neilo Viney sharing with us "Hi there. First time listening with my newborn son Idris. He is 3 months old and gives the most amazing smiles when listening to music. Especially Balearic Breakfast :) ). As DJRudy said, "We're all one family, we all mater"! The impact Balearic Breakfast had in our lives during the pandemic has also been reassessed by our pal Jocal when he said "The aural vaccine for COVID has proven to be an antidote to many other ills for 5 years. Long may it continue" . My dear Rick (Rick van Veen) made an interesting statement, saying "Wow, honourd to hear two old requests in a row. Great thing about bb, letting other enjoy music through your request"! Our commune joy rose at the same rate the viewers numbers did, quickly reaching 600 and then 1700 (incredible numbers as said our pal Popdiscorules), which was insane as Bert François (hoping to reach the 2000 landmark) stated "When we started, we were lucky to get 18 viewers on a given breakfast..." and, of course, we enjoyed Colleen's selections and mixing to the maximum! With the show coming to an end, and with Colleen saying "Thank you all for joining. Tear eyed right now. The world is so fucking hard - the rise of the right wing - fascism -a genocide - war. Thank god we have each other. Sending you all love. I'll be back next tuesday - hope you can join me" , we all celebrated one last time, thanking Colleen and Adam for the incredible work they did for these last 5 years... Thank you for 5 years of pleasure (Rick van Veen) "Thank you Colleen for a great show and helping create this amazing community. Genuinely changed my life over the last few years" (Kieran Mc Cann) Thanks Colleen what an achievement! Keep your spirits up it"s the small kindnesses that matter (Richagain) Happy 5th anniversary and thanks for the music, Colleen. THat has been magical. Thanks to the Family for being there and lots of love (itsAnahere) THANK YOU!! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! (Tomohiro Yamada) Had to pull over as been tuned in from the car! Congrats agains Colleen and thank you for everything you and Adam do for this community. Epic show. Sending love! (Sean_E) Wow what a day of music and community! Thanks Colleen (Michael Guthrie) Wonderful! Congratulations Colleen! (KellyAnderson) Thanks for today and for looking after us over the last 5 years Colleen. You're amazing! Big love to you all Balearicans (Jonboy) Thank you, thank you, thank you Colleen for a magical five hours and for the last five years (Warren 'Wowza' Pountain) Thank you Colleen, Adam and the whole BB community - people make the world go round - love saves the day (davstod) Thank you Colleen for all your efforts and commitment and love (Popdiscorules) Happy 5th birthday to you Cosmo and all of the BB family! United in music (Rina Ladybeige) Sadly, a few hours after posting the live recording, Colleen had to take it down as it appeared the sound was not meeting satisfactory standards. Colleen modified her post as follows: Today’s 5-hour birthday special was up on my Mixcloud but I had to delete the upload because of the sound quality. Working on it! Will hopefully be able to salvage it but if not, I would rather it not go out there as it just doesn't sound right. I'm so sorry. It is an all-request show that features the songs you discovered on my weekly broadcast. Thank you to all for your contributions and for joining me on the chat group - we had nearly 2k people join the live broadcast this morning - an all time record. And today’s show marks 5 years since Balearic Breakfast started and many of you have been with me for the entire journey since the show started on WWFM in the midst of the pandemic in 2020. It was a challenging time – for many it was a desperate time – and we all kept each other going in the middle of various lockdowns isolated in our own homes. Well today the world is still as challenging – maybe even more so with wars, genocide and the rise of fascism – I can see it and I’m sure many of you can, as well. So I hope Balearic Breakfast continues to be a calm and comfort in the eye of the storm. Music and community will hopefully help us navigate through the shrill political minefield in which we now find ourselves. We need to be here for one another. Thanks for joining me family and looking forward to another 5 years. See you next Tuesday ANNOUNCEMENTS This Sunday is our London Loft Autumnal Equinox party in our new East London riverside h(ohm). If you would like to come along you can make reservations here and please join our Loft family by jumping on the Friendship Train here . • Family members : Kay (kaybar007)

I knew Kay since the time I joined Classic Album Sundays a few years ago. I had to meet Colleen's Joyous friend and, let's say it out loud, a great person all around! 1) Hi Kay! I'm so happy to have you here on the Balearic Breakfast blog as you've met Colleen several time over the years, following her on her musical adventures, including Classic Album Sundays! But first, can you introduce yourself and tell us about how you got into music? Hey there Artur! I’ve known Colleen for about 15 years. We first met at a housewarming party and became friends the way people often do – through our kids and living near each other. I’m embarrassed to say I knew her for a couple of years before I actually heard her DJ. Our friendship evolved to include holidays, walks and competitive BBQing. Once we did an 11-hour drive and talked non-stop about everything from music to menopause – basically solved all of life’s mysteries and still had miles left to go. I moved to London in 1999 from New Zealand, the same year that Colleen arrived from NYC. I was already DJing back in Wellington, and that grew out of working in radio and collecting records, mostly chosen for any hilarious cover art as I was into lounge music and soundtracks, the kitschier the better. What got me into music initially was my dad, who was an avid collector of 7”s for his Wurlitzer jukebox. Pre internet this meant garage sales and buying job lots from the classifieds. He unearthed a few treasures and had briefed me to keep an eye out for a couple of elusive tracks that would probably be easy to find online nowadays. 2) How did you discover your passion for blending records together, what were the DJs that got you hooked? I was lucky in the 90s to be in Wellington, New Zealand – about as far from the rest of the world as you can get, but buzzing with good music. Despite the geography, locals knew how to throw a party, and thanks to a few die-hard promoters we had some touring DJs passing through. (NB New Zealand is three hours flying time from Australia, it takes a lot of effort and cost to bring DJs over from the US and Europe.) My first gig outside of radio came when a friend roped me into soundtracking a fashion show in about 1992. From there I found myself behind the decks in bars around town, probably because of my oddball mix of lounge, hip hop, and dance music. The DJs who left their mark on me back then were people like Tom Thump, Clint Smiley, Mark Farina and the Fonky Monks (A NZ collective made up from Mu from Fat Freddy’s plus Leon Surynt, Matt Morrell & Cian O’Donnell) – all of them weaving eclectic house and soul/funk sets that made me realise how wide the spectrum of “good music” could be. 3) You did a nice mix for Balearic Breakfast on the show's 233rd episode. How did you select the records you wanted to play? Can you tell us more about this whole experience and how it felt in the end? As ridiculous as it sounds, I never actually thought Colleen would ask me. When she comes over for a BBQ, I usually just stick on a random playlist, she’s only ever heard me play out once. So when she did ask, I was flattered. I knew I had to dig deep into my collection to find tracks I genuinely loved but that hadn’t already been played on the show. I pulled together more than two hours of music, ranked everything by BPM like the nerd I am, and then ruthlessly cut it down to an hour. I’ve got a bit of a reputation as a massive Depeche Mode fan (34 live shows so far), so of course I had to include a track of theirs. That Kruder & Dorfmeister edit of Useless is probably their most Balearic moment, so it felt right. I played it “live” style, which basically means “mistakes included at no extra cost.” I made one obvious f*ck-up when I got distracted, but that’s entirely on brand for me. I was chuffed to include House  by Kindness and Get A Move On  by Mr. Scruff – both total belters and both BB firsts. And while we’re on Mr. Scruff, is now the time to mention that 21 years ago I actually won a competition to find his biggest fan? They flew me to Sydney to see him play at a funk festival. Lovely chap. 4) Balearic Breakfast is celebrating its 5th anniversary this september. Time Flies! I know it's a hard question (laughs!), but if you had to pick up just a few memories from things that happened during the show, songs that were played that got you in an emotional state (both happy or sad), anything that hapenned thanks to the show, what would it be? The most emotional show for me was Hop Burns & Black  on March 18 this year, just a week after our dear friend Justin had died. They put together a tribute set that completely undid me. Most of the time I catch the playback instead of the live stream. Rob Calcutt has even compiled this mammoth 252-hour playlist  of just about every track that’s ever been broadcast, so I often just throw it on shuffle and let it surprise me. (He’s looking to migrate it soon since Spotify’s fallen out of favour – funding war drones while refusing to pay artists will do that.) When I do manage to join the live sessions, the sense of community is always gorgeous. Recently I met some of the BB family at We Out Here and they were exactly as warm and brilliant in real life as they are online. 5) Lastly, what are the last few artists you discovered in the "Balearic" realm that really impressed you? The most Balearic album in recent years, for me, has to be Jim / Love Makes Magic . It honestly sounds like someone fed AI the entire Laurel Canyon back catalogue and said, “Now give it a Balearic twist.” (For the record, JIM is an actual human – from Crazy P – there’s no algorithm involved.) And every remix? Sublime. These days I find myself tuning in more to producers and remixers than the original acts – especially when they bring an old track back to life or give a fresh spin to a new release. Ray Mang’s entire output, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Luxxury, Psychemagik, Greg Wilson, the Idjut Boys,Todd Terje, The Reflex, Crooked Man – all endlessly inventive. And of course, Colleen’s Cosmodelica remixes are just next-level. Take her rework of The Cure’s And Nothing Is Forever . I can’t say I loved the new album, but her remix transported me straight back to my teenage self, all moody and obsessed with layers and melancholy. The Cure were my  band, I finally saw them live in 1992, but I’d seen Public Enemy live the same week and realised that I preferred the energy and aliveness of hip hop over guitar bands who stood virtually motionless. Btw, anyone’s welcome to come and find me on IG, my account is private because my kids cringe at my life but please request a follow: @kaybar007 Thank you so much Kay!

  • Balearic Breakfast | Episode 237 | Music as Medicine... (Robot_84 / Nicolas Matar)

Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy broadcast the 237th episode of Balearic Breakfast on her Mixcloud on September 9th 2025. ABOUT THIS EPISODE After a beautiful Party held with her longtime friend François Kevorkian in NYC (thank you so much Susan for the video you shared with us!), Colleen hosted the 237th episode of our beloved show with the participation of 2 great artists: DJ and producer Scott Ferguson (I did an interview with Scott on the blog, you can read it here ) and DJ Nicolas Matar . Both mixes were really great and brought a lot of hapiness to the members of the Family listening live! This morning’s Balearic Breakfast is now up on my Mixcloud at https://tinyurl.com/38vkh4k7  and features two guest mixes from Scott Ferguson  AKA Robot 84 and Nicolas Matar as I’m currently in New York. And yes I set my alarm for 4:45 am to stream but it was lovely to catch up with Balearic Breakfast family after a couple of weeks off the show. Scott Ferguson - AKA Robot 84 - began DJ-ing in the 90’s and later started producing. His Robot 84 reworks and mash ups have been a favourite on Balearic Breakfast and in my DJ sets. In more recent times, Scott suffered a debilitating stroke which has left him partially disabled and brain damaged but he slowly and surely making an astonishing recovery. This is his first DJ mix since his stroke and its an honour to host it on Balearic Breakfast. We wish him strength for his recovery. Nicolas Matar is an old friend of mine - we met at the New York record shop Dance Tracks when I worked there in the 90’s and he always bought great tunes. Turns out he was a resident in Pacha’s Funky Room. We DJ-ed together and also produced some tunes as Bambú for my old record label Bitches Brew. Nicolas was also one of the owners of two great New York clubs: Cielo and Output. After a hiatus, he is back in the DJ saddle. Thanks to Scott and Nicolas for their guest mixes while I’m away in NYC taking in the beautiful views from Le Bain on Sunday during my back to back rooftop set with Francois K. We had a great time - great people from all over the world in a magical setting with a full moon and fireworks! This Saturday I’m back in London for the Balearic Breakfast Day Party at Night Tales Loft  celebrating the release of Balearic Breakfast 4 on Heavenly Recordings - these are always fun affairs and you can get more info at https://tinyurl.com/4hf8msua We will also be celebrating the 5th anniversary of Balearic Breakfast both at Saturday’s party and also next Tuesday on the show. It will be an anniversary marathon show and will go much longer than usual. The request line goes up on Saturday and I look forward to seeing which songs you discovered on the show truly resonated with you. Until then, enjoy today’s show and I hope to see you at NT's on Saturday or on the Mixcloud chat on Tuesday. Thanks for listening. • Balearic Breakfast | Episode 236 | Family Gatherings (Sean_E)

Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy broadcast the 236th episode of Balearic Breakfast on her Mixcloud on August 19th 2025. INTRODUCTION Curated by Gilles Peterson , We Out Here is the most important annual event to happen in the UK, "a 4-day award-winning festival that celebrates world-class music, alongside wellness, family and cultural activities, with the help of an outstanding musical community" . Colleen and Maria Hanlon If you're familiar with Worldwide FM and follow Colleen on her socials, I'm sure you already know some of the DJs included in this 2026 edition. We can mention, among others, DJ_Emma , Ariane V , Maria Hanlon , Tina Edwards , SwayoftheVerses or even our friend Sean_E from the Melomaniacs Collective (the festival had its radio station and all of the shows have been posted on Mixcloud , including the special Balearic Breakfast episode presented live by our dear Captain – and a special and heartfelt thank you to my friend Rick van Veen who mentioned the blog on the WWFM chat! ). Ed. Note: Our beloved DJ Emma presented a very interesting radio show during the WOH Festival, entitled "Music as Medicine", as she explained on her socials: " this gig at WOH radio was the thing I’ve been most looking forward to since I heard that I was going to be showcasing something I have become so passionate about in recent years. Namely working with @davemc3bee and @_ash_dj and teaching them DJ’ing which has led to a deep interest in brain injury and music and how music can help people in such a powerful and positive way following a catastrophic life changing event. @davemc3bee touched so many people at WOH with his story and amazing talent and it was a joy to have had this opportunity at this wonderful festival. The WOH radio stage was such a great vibe for the show and Dave got everyone off the bean bags and dancing:) Thanks also to @robot84music for the contribution to the show and telling his story about his stroke back in 2022 and how music helped him:) Thanks so much to @joshaitman for giving me this opportunity and to @1btnradio @ worldwide.fm and of course huge respect to @gillespeterson and @noahballnoahballnoahball for creating something so special. It’s the 4th year I’ve been involved and it’s an honour everytime ♥️ Thanks to the WOH radio crew @alien_izz and @rosabellaallen for making us feel so welcome ♥️ ‘Music as Medicine’ will be available soon on @ worldwide.fm to listen back to if you’d like to hear what the show was all about! If you’d want to catch @davemc3bee MC’ing - come along to @groovejunctionevents on the 6th September at Salisbury Arts Centre 💚" This year's line-up was Massive and of course, Colleen was to be found at The Love Dancing Tent ( Facebook page ), with her very own list of musical acts (her daughter Ariana played the very first set, including Fat Freddy's Drop's hauntingly beautiful "Blackbird" on which Colleen proudly danced). ABOUT THIS EPISODE After this crazy weekend, Colleen went on to present the 236th episode of our beloved show, despite being tired both vocally and physically. For this episode, she invited our friend Sean_E, who delivered a very nice set. Today's show was a nice one indeed as Colleen started with the rather dark-sounding track that is Calm's Opening, letting Sean_E take over. His mix slowly evolved within its realm and gained a beautiful stability over time (starting from Santana's "Song of the Wind"). We will have Sean_E on the blog in a few weeks, so we'll discuss this point together, as it reveals something exciting musically speaking. Taking the con, Colleen also presented an evolving mix, which is quite interesting as it somehow answers Sean_E's body of work. On the chat, the happiness was real, a lot of our friends sharing their hapiness after experiencing the magic of Colleen's musical tent at WOH, like Kieran McCann who shared with us: "I reckon I spent 75% of my time at WOH In Love Dancin' Anyone have any other highlights? Ganavya 's performance was incredibly moving for me" . Of course, François Kevorkian's performance has also been praised on the chat! It seems obvious, and many people said that on their socials over the weekend and after the event, that the Love Dancin' tent was the best tent at WOH wih the best sound! To sum it all up, I'll share our friends Karen Claire's few words, saying "Excessive Enthusiasm 🤣🤣🤣🤣 "! (Pictures from A-Live Sound LTD 's Facebook page) This morning’s Balearic Breakfast is now up on my Mixcloud and features new music, a track from the forthcoming Balearic Breakfast Volume 4 comp and an exclusive mix from Balearic Breakfast family member @___sean_e___ who is also part of the @mel0maniacs collective who helped him choose tunes for the mix. They are a group of music lovers who connected during the pandemic on chat groups for Worldwide FM and Balearic Breakfast and other radio shows. They also had their first live outing in the Brawnswood Tent at We Out Here. And speaking of WOH, thanks to all who joined me on Saturday night in the Love Dancin’ tent or who stopped by at any point during the festival – I hope you got a good groove on. And it was lovely hosting another Balearic Breakfast for Worldwide FM and meeting some of you – thanks for joining me and I have reposted the show on my Mixcloud (please give me a follow over there). We will celebrate the 5th ANNIVERSARY OF BALEARIC BREAKFAST on the 16th September – get ready for a marathon show – and we will also celebrate it at the next Balearic Breakfast Day Party at NTs Loft on Saturday, the 13th September and joining me Danny & Daisy of the Heavenly Jukebox and Pete Wiggs from Saint Etienne. Tickets are now up on Dice and RA and we sold out last time so please get in there! I won’t be streaming the show for the next couple of weeks as I’ll be in transit – playing at If You Know You Know Festival in Ireland this weekend and Jazz ReFound in Italy next week – but I’ll be back streaming remotely with a guest mix from @robot84music on the 9th September. Until then, kick back and enjoy today’s show. Thanks for listening. Ed. Note: To help you out with your requests for the upcoming 2025 Balearic Breakfast Anniversary Marathon show, you can check the Quick Access playlists, which are published here . For your listening pleasure, the 2024 Marathon 4th birthday show can be found here . I'm taking two weeks off, as I'll be in transit, playing in Ireland and Italy, and then going back to the States, but I will stream remotely on Tuesday, the 9th of September, and I have a guest mix from Robot 84 for that one, and then I'll be back hosting Balearic Breakfast live in the Record Room on Tuesday, the 16th of September, and it will be the fifth anniversary of Balearic Breakfast. So we're having a marathon special , requests only , and so start thinking about one of your favorite songs you discovered on the show, not one of your requests , one of the songs you discovered on the show, and I'm trying not to do repeats, so maybe take a look at my socials and look back at the last two Balearic Breakfast anniversary specials as well. Let's not do repeats. There's so much music in the universe, and I can never get to all of it, so let's just keep turning people on to things they don't know. That request line will go up on the weekend prior on my Instagram and Facebook, so I think that will be the 13th of September, which is also the date for the next Balearic Breakfast day party at NT's Loft , and so I'll be celebrating the fifth anniversary of Balearic Breakfast, but also the release of the f ourth of the Balearic Breakfast compilation series . So Balearic Breakfast 4 is coming out on the 29th of August, also the CD for Volumes 3 and 4 , and at the Balearic Breakfast day party on the 13th of September, I'll be joined by the Heavenly Jukebox, that's Danny and Daisy, and also Pete Wiggs from Saint Etienne, so that should be a lot of fun. Tickets are now up on Dice and Resident Advisor, and it did sell out last time, so I highly advise you pre-purchase your tickets. Okay, there will be another release party too for those in Ibiza on the 28th of September at Pike's , so there you go. ABOUT THE SONGS (Excerpts from Colleen's presentation) In today's episode, Colleen selected the following songs. Calm with Opening , live at Navaro Kumamoto from his new release, Feel the Moment Laboratory Live in Kyushu , which you can find on Bandcamp. And Calm is Fukagawa Kiyotaka , a talented producer and musician, and he plays all of the instruments except for Yuichiro Yakato on sax. The album is a series of live recordings from gigs around Kyushu, one of the main islands of Japan, the most southwestern islands of the archipelago ; After a few years of being quiet, actually for nearly a decade, Quiet Village recently returned and their single Reunion came out last year, and now Joel Martin and Mark Edwards are back with another single, this time featuring the sultry vocals of Vanessa Daou , a fixture on the early house scene with her songs with her former husband, Peter Daou, and also Danny Teneglia producing, and her debut solo album, Zipless , which came out in 1994, it was recently reissued as well. Here she is with Quiet Village on a new single coming out next month called Naked Hunger ; See You Shine by Erin Buku , who is a singer-songwriter, DJ, producer, and sound healer in Adelaide, Australia. She's worked with Talib Kweli , and also DJ Spinna, who did a great jazz set at our Dingwall session on Sunday at the Love Dancin' tent that we got here, it was a style of music I've never heard him play before, I thought he was going to go a bit more Mizzell Brothers, but he didn't, he kind of kept the tempo up, it was really, really great. We heard a remix by Australian collective Sai Galaxy , led by the multi-instrumentalist Simon Durrington, whose music I really like, and he has a new one out called Analogue Recital at the moment. Mexico's Trip Tease and Alan Weiss , aka Carlos Salame , with Sex Having Disco , and we are listening to the Prince Thomas Disco Mix , and it's coming out on Astroled Recordings, which is Spaniard Ilya Santana's label, going about a decade now, and this track is coming out on vinyl and digital on the 5th of September. Heading back to Adelaide for this next one, this one is from our friend Gratts , who is Belgian DJ and producer Tristan Jong . His single Better Days was released last month, but this is a different mix by Korean-American DJ and producer Fennec , who is based in Austin, Texas, and his remix is called Fennec's Better Nights Remix . MDA Grooves , which is Mundo de Aventuras , and that's Jose Salvador, and he runs the Portland Sound Studios and Tink Music companies in Amsterdam, and is in bands like Black Tulip and Electronic Voodoo, and he's put out six MDA Grooves EP for Universo Positivo, coming through very quickly, two last year, and already four this year, and we heard Ipanema Jazz from MDA Grooves' latest Carioca Bounce . DJ, producer, and body movement coach Cody Ferreira , aka CoFlo , from San Francisco, California, and he's also Raw Boss , I didn't even know that, as I've been playing songs under that moniker as well. CoFlo has a forthcoming EP coming out on Jimster's Free Range Records label, and we heard Who the Frequency, but I like all the cuts, and played Unite at Houghton Festival a couple of weekends ago, and that's coming out on digital and vinyl at the end of the summer. A new DJ and producer, Ichisan , with Fantasound , and this is the Isox Berry Mix , and that is Brian's son, and that just came out on Disco Lipso . Love Is a Hurtin' Thing by the late American soul singer Gloria Ann Taylor , and she put out a bunch of records starting in the 1960s, and then took a break to raise children, and Ubiquiti reissued her music a decade ago, and Taylor returned to the music scene. She sadly passed the next realm a couple of years after that. And this coveted 12-inch mix of her single, Love Is a Hurting Thing, will be featured on the next compilation, Balearic Breakfast 4.
